2021 BMW X1 Redesign

2021 BMW X1 PHEV Specs

There were a lot of speculations about the plug-in hybrid for the subcompact crossover. Well, the company is finally launching it, but details are not available yet. Most British auto magazines are already reporting that the new drivetrain is going to be available for 2020 season as an update in the second or third quarter. For the United States, the hybrid unit is not going to be available before 2021 YM. The package will come with other updates on the styling and the X1 could hit the new generation.

The 2021 BMW X1 xDrive25e is the model buyers in Europe are getting. This is not the first appearance since the German carmaker used this configuration for a car sibling. There, the drivetrain was capable to run 35 miles by using only the electric power. A 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine is the petrol unit. It produces 122 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. An electric motor supports the drivetrain with 95 horsepower and 120 pound-feet of twist. The total output of the plug-in hybrid system is 220 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque. Intelligent AWD will shift power to all, rear, or front wheels, wherever X1 needs it the most.

There are two other configurations available for the 2021 BMW X1. The crossover will carry over petrol units from its predecessor. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mill is bursting 228 horsepower. The company recommends premium gasoline for maximum performance. In that case, you can count on 260 lb-ft of torque. The subcompact model is not returning stunning mileage, with only 26 mpg combined. Well, the extra power consumes more gasoline.

An eight-speed Aisin automatic gearbox is a power router. The same engine delivers power to front wheels, but it can be also attached to the intelligent AWD system. The xDrive will send power to the front, rear, or all wheels, depending on needs. The system is not consuming too much more fuel unless you select the Sport Mode. BMW also offers Eco and Comfort configurations.

The model for the 2020 season is getting some nice changes. If the new generation happens in 2021, that means an overhaul for the X1. Well, the arrival of the plug-in hybrid will bring unique upgrades for this model. The subcompact model is not getting the M performance package, but only the M Sport trim. The suite installs roof rails and LED lights, while inside buyers are getting sports buckets. Special transmission and suspension setups are also available.

Still, the base model is pretty attractive, although it carries the standard package. The premium crossover comes with Apple CarPlay compatibility, park assist sensors, and navigation. The new model will increase the size of the grille, while the headlights are going to be narrower. Air vents on the bumper will provide better cooling. The 2021 BMW X1 should be more aesthetic than before.

2021 BMW X1 Release Date

The new 2021 BMW X1 is coming in the second half. We don’t expect huge changes in the subcompact segment and this model will probably be the star with the plug-in hybrid. other companies are not putting too much effort into this class because of the slow sales. Buyers find compact and mid-size SUVs more interesting, and sales are showing that without doubts. The PHEV system could change things up, but don’t expect spectacular results.

The new 2021 BMW X1 will cost around $36,000. If you want the famous xDrive AWD (recommended), you will have to add $2,000. For this money, mid-size three-row SUVs offer mid-range models. Still, the premium feeling the German carmaker can provide is hard to match. The price of a PHEV model will start above $40k.
