2021 Dodge Journey: Redesign, AWD, Price, and Specs. It may be old and outdated, but the Journey is still in the offer, mainly because of its affordable price, which makes it the cheapest three-row crossover on the market. Compared to most rivals, the Journey is significantly older, so it’s no wonder that many reports suggest a complete overhaul in the near future. As there is still no official confirmation for the 2021 Dodge Journey redesign, we may presume that the next-year model will probably remain in the offer unchanged.
The 2020 model year has brought some pretty serious cuts and it is very likely that the next-year model will continue in the same way. At this point, we can only speculate, but it seems almost certain that the redesign if there is such a plan, won’t happen so soon. Expect to see 2021 Dodge Journey in a typical time of year, sometime in the last quarter of 2020.
2021 Dodge Journey Engine
The biggest change we’ve seen on the 2020 model is the fact that the optional V6 engine has been dropped. We expect from the new Dodge Journey 2021 to carry on in the same way and to offer just a version with a familiar 2.4-liter engine, which is good for about 172 horsepower. This unit definitely feels underpowered and definitely isn’t something that can provide some spectacular driving experience. Things become even worse once you find out that the engine comes in pair with an old 4-speed automatic gearbox. Even the fuel economy isn’t a strong point of this engine, as you may count on about 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which seems a little bit low for a four-cylinder engine.
2021 Dodge Journey Design
In terms of base design characteristics, there is really no need to talk too much about this model. It was introduced in 2009, so it’s quite easy to presume that it is outdated, compared to most rivals. Of course, this is instantly notable, as just one look on the styling makes things pretty clear. The styling hasn’t been changed significantly for years and even the facelift way pretty mild at the time. Still, the look isn’t the main concern of this crossover.
We particularly don’t like the ride quality. The obviously underpowered engine, this crossover doesn’t show any sign of athleticism. You won’t enjoy driving this crossover for sure but after all, that isn’t something you would actually expect from an old vehicle like this.
On the other side, you would expect some dose of functionality and that is where Journey does the job pretty good. Of course, the 2021 Dodge Journey will continue in the same way. This is not a particularly large mid-size crossover. It features a pretty average wheelbase that goes slightly under 114 inches, but the cabin somehow feels quite functional. Storage compartments are everywhere, while the cabin by itself looks quite boxy, which is great for bulky loads.
When it comes to comfort, the first and second row offers a quite decent amount of legroom. On the other side, the third row is typically tight for the class. In terms of interior quality, you shouldn’t have big expectations from the 2021 Dodge Journey. Count on the familiar design, which is characterized by a pretty outdated dashboard look, although materials and overall quality are actually quite nice. We particularly like the infotainment system, which is probably the best thing about this cabin, along with a cube-like cargo area.
The 2020 model year made things much simpler and there are just two trim levels in the offer not. We presume that the 2021 Dodge Journey will carry on in the same way. Base models are called SE Value and they don’t come with a too-long list of standard equipment. You can expect steel wheels, as well as things like automatic headlights, foglights, roof rails, heated side mirrors etc. In terms of tech goodies, there is a small but nice-working 4.3-inch touchscreen, as well as things like a 6-speaker audio system, rearview camera etc.
The Crossroad trim is a bit of an upgrade. You may count on the excellent 8.4-inch touchscreen, as well as on larger alloy wheels, upgraded suspension, three-zone climate control etc. Of course, there are also numerous standalone options in both trim levels.
2021 Dodge Journey Release Date, Price, Redesign
Given the lack of changes, there is no doubt that the 2021 Dodge Journey will arrive in a typical time of year, sometime in late 2020. It will remain the cheapest three-row crossover on the market, with the starting price under 25.000 dollars.
When it comes to the redesign, the latest reports suggest we are about to see the next generation. It will take the place of Durango, which is about to become a BoF SUV, and it will share many design characteristics with the next-generation Grand Cherokee.
