2022 Genesis GV70: SUV, News, Specs, & Price. Following the arrival of its first GV80 SUV, Hyundai’s luxury sub-brand is readying another high-riding model which goes on as the 2022 Genesis GV70 The new Genesis-badged SUV is sized and equipped to be an alternative to the established names such as the BMW X3 and X4, Volvo XC60, Mercedes GLC, Range Rover Evoque, etc.
The new Genesis GV70 should share the architecture with the upcoming all-new Hyundai Tucson and may also get its new Theta3 engine. The powertrain should also include those used in the G70 sedan including also the diesel mill.
From the visual standpoint, the Genesis GV70 will share the design language with the larger GV80 SUV and it will also come with the upscale and well-equipped cabin including top-notch tech and safety features.
2022 Genesis GV70 Powertrain
When it comes to the powering options, the reports indicate that Hyundai’s new 2.5-liter Theta3 engine which should power the new-generation Hyundai Tucson could also find the way under the hood of the 2022 Genesis GV70. It is also highly likely that a new Genesis SUV will borrow powering units from the G70 sedan.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 252 hp and torque of 260 lb-ft in the Genesis G70. This engine is paired with the manual transmission in this application. However, in the case of the new GV70 SUV, the 8-speed automatic transmission should be used across the range. A 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine should also be in the options list producing around 365 hp and torque of 376 lb-ft like in the G70 sedan.
The GV70 could also use a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine from the GV80 making around 300 hp. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine producing around 274 hp should also be available in some markets. The hybridized powertrain should appear later in the life cycle.
Like the larger GV80, the new GV70 should be available with the all-wheel drive only.
2022 Genesis GV70 Design
The upcoming 2022 Genesis GV70 was caught several times on the spy photos and unsurprisingly it will share the same design language with the recently, all-new GV80 SUV.
The all-new GV70 has a smaller footprint but the shape and body lines are close to that of the mid-size GV80. The smaller Genesis SUV takes a slightly sportier approach with the sharper roofline and styling elements. The front section adopts the brand’s signature shield-framed grille flanked by the quad-headlight setup like the recently introduced mid-size GV80.
From the profile perspective, the upcoming GV70 seems to have a similarly defined character line and fender flares as the GV80. Thanks to the more aggressive roofline and smaller body its look is bolder and sportier.
The rear shares some similarities with Porsche and there are of course similar styling elements as on the Genesis GV80. The model comes with the quad-unit taillights and dual-port exhaust setup.
The interior of the upcoming 2022 Genesis GV70 wasn’t caught on the spy photos. However, it shouldn’t depart far from what we can see in the new GV80.
The model should adopt similar dashboard design and tech features as the larger cousin including also good sound insulation. There will be a large center touchscreen sitting atop the dash operated via the controller on the center console. The model comes also with a modern digital instrument cluster and multi-functional steering wheel.
Like other Genesis models, the GV70 will also get many premium comforts and tech features by default. The entry-level model should come with the simulated leather upholstery, ambient lighting, heated front seats, rear charging ports, etc. The base version will also equip modern safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, etc.
Upper available options and trim levels will add real leather upholstery, cooling and massage function, blind-spot monitoring and other premium comfort and tech features.
2022 Genesis GV70 Release, Price
The new 2022 Genesis GV70 should starts in low $40,000 likely around $42,000. The V-6 powered version will lift the price to the high-$40, 000s.
The release date of the Genesis’ second SUV could be moved from early 2022 as it was initially expected to later 2022. The reason is corona virus pandemic but in any case, the model should still arrive as the 2022 version.
