Dakota will definitely arrive under the RAM’s badge and it will be based on the iconic Ram 1500 pickup. This nameplate was available until 2011 before its low sales forced the manufacturer to end the production. However, returner older nameplates is a thing nowadays.
Ram will build a new Dakota around the body-on-frame architecture. The same platform underpins Ram 1500 model and both versions will be built in the Ohio plant. Some details are already available, including a popular V6 powertrain option. However, we still don’t know anything about its special editions or trim levels and packages.
Possible Engine Options
At this moment, we don’t know that much about Dakota’s engine lineup. However, at least one engine is certain to happen and it is a 3.6-liter V6. With this gasoline powertrain, new 2023 Ram Dakota will deliver 285 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be the only gearbox option.
As for the optional engine, a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 295 hp is a very realistic outcome. Some reports are predicting a six-speed manual transmission for one of the off-road variants. The base model offers an optional AWD system that will be standard on higher-grade trims.
2023 Dakota Looks Like Ram 1500
At this moment, no one actually knows how the 2023 Ram Dakota will look like. Some renderings are already available and it is the best thing we have right now. The same renderings are showing plenty of similarities with the Ram 1500 pickup. Some other reports are suggesting a combination of old-school design and modern styling cues. On the other hand, don’t be surprised if Ram opts for something completely new. No matter what happens, Dakota will surely look very modern and upscale.
Brand’s new design language is a must for this pickup. We would like to see a unique appearance but we are sure that the appearance will be closer to the Ram 1500. That includes a variety of similar styling cues and even the shape will be almost the same. Dakota will arrive as a body-on-frame pickup and it will ride on standard 18-inch wheels.
You can expect a similar story on the inside as well. The 2023 Ram Dakota will offer upright interior design with recognizable features. For a start, new upholstery is in the works, along with the unique shape of the air vents. On the other hand, displays will be the same as the units inside Ram 1500.
The goal is to deliver a practical cabin with plenty of room. Thanks to the upper trim levels, Dakota can be had in a far luxurious version. The range-topping trim will surely arrive with a larger touchscreen, better safety, and standard leather upholstery.
