Genesis GV90: Rumors, Latest News, Redesign, Launch Date

Genesis GV90: Rumors, Latest News, Redesign, Launch Date. The premium Genesis brand continues the transition from the sedan-specialized brand to a more versatile lineup. The focus will of course be on the ever-growing SUV segment and electrification. Following the introduction of the striking, mid-size GV80 SUV, the brand is now working on a smaller GV70 model. However, there are indications that Hyundai’s premium sub-brand is considering a new full-size model. Called the Genesis GV90, the flagship SUV should be an alternative to the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS.

Genesis has currently three sedans on the roads, the G80, g70 and g90. The mid-size GV80 is the only Genesis-badged SUV for now but the premium brand promised three new, high-riding models by 2021. The next to come is the compact-sized GV70 and Genesis mentioned the all-electric SUV as the third. That leaves the full-size, 7-seat GV90 for an arrival beyond 2021.

Genesis hasn’t yet commented on the speculations about the GV90 model and there are no many details about its design either.

Genesis GV90 Powertrains

When it comes to powertrain, like other brand’s SUVs, the Genesis GV90 could share the components with the Genesis sedan. The full-size SUV could use a mighty 5.0-liter V-8 engine. The current G90 sedan exploits also a 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 engine.

The GV90 SUV should, however, switch to the brand’s new engines that are being developed. The 365-hp 3.3-liter V-6 turbo should leave the room for the new 3.5-liter unit producing about 10 hp more. The brand is also working on the new inline-6 turbodiesel engine as the replacement for the current V-6 unit.

The model should combine engines with 8-speed automatic transmission. There would be two- and all-wheel drive options. The model would also use electronically controlled limited-slip differential and sophisticated suspension setup. Like the GV80, the model would also employ adjustable suspension and various driving modes.

The full-size Genesis SUV should also get the electrified powertrain option.

Genesis GV90 Design

The Hyundai premium sub brand launched its first-ever GV80 SUV on the dedicated, rear-wheel-drive architecture called M3. The upcoming, compact-sized GV70 is based on the separate rear-wheel-drive platform shared with the GV70 sedan. The third, all-electric Genesis SUV should be and have a mid-size footprint based on the new electric platform.

As for the reported full-size GV90, if Genesis applies the same recipe, the flagship SUV should share the platform with the new-generation G90 sedan. The updated G90 is on sale as the 2020 model and the all-new versions should arrive around 2023.

The brand’s chief design officer said that the new SUVs will share the same DNA but they will have a distinctive visual identity when it comes to the styling. The new GV70 won’t be the miniaturized GV80 but two models will share the brand’s signature design elements as evidenced by the spy shots. The GV90 should also have a unique, bulkier silhouette like every full-size SUV but the model should also share styling cues with the newest Genesis models.

The flagship Genesis GV90 should have an upright stance and tall roofline. The front section would get the largest execution of the brand’s signature, shield-shaped grille. The model should also use the quad headlight and taillights setup.

Interior, Equipment

While the styling of the brand’s SUVs should have a unique charter, the models should share the same interior design.

The GV90 would likely share a similar in-cab design with the new GV80. The model would also come loaded with premium tech, comfort and safety features.

The model should adopt the horizontally-oriented, uncluttered dash design with the high sitting center touchscreen. There would also be many high-end luxury touches inside the cabin.

The GV90 would come with a seven-seat configuration and plenty of cargo space. The model would also equip premium features from the entry-level version as well as the top-notch safety systems.

Genesis GV90 Release, Price

Genesis hasn’t yet commented on the rumors about the new flagship GV90 SUV. The model should follow after the introduction of the compact GV70 and all-electric and new SUV likely sometime around 2023.

The Genesis GV90 would challenge the premium, full-size BMW and Mercedes SUVs with the price starting around $70, 000. Like other brand’s models, it should also offer one of the best warranty packages in the class.
